“God show me how good it can get”

Yesterday was a reminder that nothing is ever wasted in God. My first time at @blacktechsaturdays I was volunteering to review LinkedIn profiles. This year, I was blessed to be selected out of 300 applicants to be a speaker.

Before I arrived, I was nervous that no one would show up to my workshop. But instead, the room was FULL. I’d worked hard on my presentation but I wasn’t sure if/how it would resonate. But instead, several attendees stopped me after to share how much it helped them. To share how I needed to be on more stages speaking. To share how they feel inspired to tell their authentic story. Moral of the story? God always gets the glory.

Obedience Is Greater Than Sacrifice - 1 Samuel 15:22

In this season, my prayer in business is to be obedient to what He says and that His Voice would be so much louder than my own. As busy season comes to a close for Resourceful Reese in a few weeks, all I can do is be grateful. Grateful for being able to take my grandmother to appointments, even if I have to take my laptop with me. Grateful for clients using my printing services and I haven’t even announced it yet. Grateful for clients booking me to do wedding coordination and design, even if it means I’m in the garage painting at night. Grateful to work, even if I’m not making the money I was in corporate right now.

May the Lord bless your obedience in this season. Don’t worry about how it looks, worry about what He says.

P.S. don’t mind my face, I was off 45 minutes of sleep after sleeping on a hospital couch with my StineyGirl LOL

As a business owner, you wear a ton of hats. You’re likely the CEO, bookkeeper, marketing manager, videographer, product packager, customer service rep, and more. There will come a time when you can outsource and hire someone who has those core strengths to perform each of those roles.

Until then, don’t be afraid to learn and utilize free resources, barter with other product and service providers, and network to build the team you desire.

It’s been a full two months of being in business full time and what a fun time it’s been. There’s been some stress, no doubt, but I’m grateful for God’s provision and His Hand orchestrating it all in ways I can’t even explain.

Here’s a few things I’ve learned:
1. Take the time to figure out how you want to orchestrate your day. For example, I get the most work done in the late morning and early afternoon. It’s the time where I’m most productive with client graphics, social media copy, website design etc. Thus, I don’t start my workday until 10am to the public and carve out time on certain days to focus on those activities. Late afternoon and early evenings are better for my emails and follow ups.
2. Experiment in slow seasons!!! When your business feels like its slowing down because your peak season is over or sales are a little low, take the time to try out different content, test a new service/product, participate in community facing events, etc.
3. Find a hobby or something that takes your mind off of work. This one is trial and error, my friends. For me, I love spending time with my favorite people and working out. Even if it’s a 30 minute phone call or an hour workout session, my mind clears. Try until you find your place of calm (ex: pottery, dance class, dancing in the living room, the gym)
4. Rest and hydrate!! I’m used to living in a state of constant movement. I’ve thrived in slightly structured chaos and I’m doing my best to reduce that. Just because you’ve been doing it, doesn’t mean you should continue. I don’t want to be a burnt out CEO, I want to be a well rested, well prayed, well slept CEO. I’m learning how to block off my calendar for a nap on a busy day, for a walk, or for a massage. I’ve also learned to set my hours and do my best to stick to them.

I’m learning how to block off my calendar for a nap on a busy day, for a walk, or for a massage. I’ve also learned to set my hours and do my best to stick to them.

At the beginning of the year God told me to start a community for Christian entrepreneurs. In full transparency, I didn’t ask many questions - I went into full execution. I started doing research on what platforms were most powerful, effective, and engaging.

I love @janeshamoores platform and loved what she was doing on @discord, so I started learning the platform’s ins and outs. I was super excited and ready to hit the ground running so I created graphics and even started adding conversation starters.

Here was the problem - my community didn’t take to it. While my audience enjoyed the concept of the community, the platform wasn’t the right fit. It wasn’t that my strategy or idea was wrong, I just needed to find a platform that was easy to access and generation friendly for those who weren’t tech savvy.

Moral of the story: don’t give up on your strategy because the first tactic didn’t work. Ask your tribe what they’d like to see directly, talk to others in your industry that have similar demographics and following to yours. TRY AGAIN!

During our live we talked about King Asa, who upon taking the throne honored God and sought Him for everything. But after many years of praying for God’s help and God honoring his request, stopped seeking Him and depended on his strategy and people.

This Saturday I had the privilege of meeting with 5 incredible women for a 20 minute coffee chat. I answered questions about their ideas to market their businesses and brainstormed ideas to get in front of their target clientele. I had a blast and left each coffee chat feeling inspired. I’m so grateful that they trusted me to share my ideas and expertise.

My prayer is that God blesses their brands beyond imagination. My prayer is that God continues to grant creativity, wisdom, insight, and discernment as they plan for the last quarter of the year. My prayer is that their bookings increase and lack won’t be their portion - I’m believing God for overflow!
